Artist Statement

With a working-class freelance background, Marcus Mastrud explores their curiosity with multiplicity as they set to finish their BFA at Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2025. Mastrud explores print processes through personal obsessions, habits, and experience. Mastrud utilizes the role of the multiple as a vehicle for collaboration and connection; simple and bold subject matter invites the viewer to engage with Mastrud’s concepts of habitual nature. Adopting “old school” printing techniques and pairing them with upcycled materials, such as cigarette boxes and pharmaceutical bottles, Mastrud is exploring multiplicity with intent to understand why it is important to their practice.
